The Grubb & Ellis Charity Raft Race raises money for two local charities, the Transplant Network and the Truckee River Foundation. Funds raised help aid each charity in furthering its individual goals.
The Transplant Network, a non-profit organization committed to saving the lives of transplant patients, reaches out to local patients in need. In 2007, funds aided 3-year-old heart transplant patient Kurtis Lindsay, a local boy who just received his transplant and now his family requires assistance with managing the insurmountable medical bills to sustain his health. The second was Christopher Bradley, a 24-year-old Reno resident in need of his second kidney transplant. Bradley received his first donated kidney from his mother 10 years ago and now, due to a failing kidney, needs another transplant to stay alive. The Truckee River Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide environmental, educational, access, safety and athlete development programs to further enhance our area’s natural resource, the Truckee River. The organization uses its proceeds from the Charity Raft Race to support its annual Stay Afloat Safety Fair designed to provide free river safety instruction, helmets and Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs) to youths age eight to 13.
