GRUBB & ELLIS CHARITY RAFT RACE RAISES RECORD SETTING DOLLARS FOR TWO LOCAL CHARITIES, FOURTH YEAR IN A ROW. Transplant Network and Truckee River Foundation Each Receive More Than $11,000

RENO, Nev. (June 3, 2008) — Twenty-four rafts crossed the finish line in this year’s Grubb & Ellis Charity Raft Race presented by the City of Reno, May 9, 2008, but the day’s big winners were the charity beneficiaries who each received more than $11,000. The Transplant Network and the Truckee River Foundation have been the event’s beneficiaries since the race’s inception in 2005 and have received nearly $60,000 in charity contributions to-date.

“2008 was another successful year for our Charity Raft Race,” notes John Pinjuv, president of Grubb & Ellis|NCG. “We appreciate the enthusiasm from our sponsors in reaching out to our charities and enjoying the opportunity to spend a day on the river. Our event is truly a win-win situation for everyone involved and we hope to continue the tradition for years to come.”

Money raised during the event helps aid each charity in furthering its individual goals. The Transplant Network, a non-profit organization committed to saving the lives of transplant patients, will use its share of event proceeds to assist 20-year-old Jessica Drossulis, recipient of a life-saving liver transplant. Though Drossulis is currently thriving, she and her family struggle with the insurmountable medical costs from her procedures so funds raised from this year’s Charity Raft Race will provide funding to assist with the costs of her immuno-suppressant drugs. The Truckee River Foundation, a non-profit organization with a mission to provide environmental, educational, safety and athlete development programs to further enhance the Truckee River, will use proceeds to support a number of causes including the Foundation’s annual Stay Afloat Safety Fair, set for July 19, 2008. The event provides free river safety education, helmets and Personal Floatation Devices (PFDs) for youth ages eight to 13.

Raft sponsors for the 2008 event included: Allied Washoe Petroleum; Capstone Partners LLC; Circus Circus Reno; Collaborative Design Studio; Express Graphics; Granite Construction Company; McDonald Carano Law; Nevada Security Bank; Panattoni Development Company; Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority; The CFO Group; Telesto Nevada Inc.; and Wood Rodgers / DR Land Company.

The Siena Hotel Spa Casino has served as the post-race Bar-B-Que lunch sponsor supporting the event since its inception. In addition, the race receives support from RTC Ride who provides transportation for all race participants from the Truckee River Whitewater Park to the start of the race, Coldstone Creamery who provides free ice cream and dessert for participants and Tahoe Whitewater who provides the guides and rafts for the race.

The event also received cash donations from Health Benefits of Nevada and First Independent Bank of Nevada.

“The momentum for this event is incredible…each year we see teams returning with a mission to take home those prize paddles and others with very entertaining team costumes. The race continues to grow and flourish and is a chance for businesses to build camaraderie and enjoy the surroundings of downtown’s redevelopment efforts,” adds Sharon Spangler, community relations director for the City of Reno.

Race Results: Granite Construction took home the first place finish followed by McDonald Carano Wilson in second place and Nevada Security Bank finishing third.

Capstone Partners was awarded the best team name in the event’s second annual “Best Team Name Contest” with “Capsizers” and the Wood Rodgers/DR Land Company earned the “Best Team Costume” award with team members dressed as various cereal box characters to fit their “Caption Crunch and the Cereal Killers” theme.
